Elder Charles Henry Brewer, Sr. arrived in New Haven January 1947 from Springfield, Mass.   With his lovely wife, Sadie Brewer and two children, Patricia and Charles Jr., Elder Brewer, Sr. began his pastorate at the Church Of God In Christ at 270 Ashmun Street.  The store-front church with coal heat had about six members. The church was incorporated by Elder Brewer, Sr. and given the name “Trinity Temple Church Of God In Christ, Inc.”  Our Founder had a greater dream for Trinity Temple.  Many hearts were turned to God during the effective ministry of Elder Brewer, Sr.  After nine months, he said, “We cannot stay here.  We must move ahead.”

Elder Brewer, Sr., went downtown to the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce to request an endorsement to solicit funds to purchase a new building to worship in. He took the members daily and solicited funds. The Lord blessed in a special way. Many hearts were turned to God during the effective ministry of Elder Brewer.

In 1948, God made it possible for Elder Brewer, Sr. to purchase property and a church at 132 Foote Street in New Haven.  Members were blessed to move from coal heat to steam heat.   In the same year, Elder Brewer and the members marched from the Ashmun Street church to the new church home on Foote Street. When they arrived, Elder Charles H. Brewer, Sr. stood on the steps and prayed. In 1963, the Trinity Temple Church was purchased by the City of New Haven to build a new school, Helen Grant School.

Elder Brewer, Sr. was ordained State Overseer of the Connecticut Churches of God in Christ and in 1954 became Bishop of the Connecticut Diocese.  His progress was outstanding as evidenced by his leadership in the Dixwell Community and his participation in civic, political, and social activities throughout the city.

Bishop Charles H. Brewer, Sr. had a dream to build a “House”. In 1965, Trinity Temple Church Of God In Christ, Inc. under the direction and leadership of our Founder, Bishop Brewer, Sr. was blessed to acquire the property located on the corner of Dixwell Avenue and Henry Street. The magnificent House of Worship where we are blessed today was built. God allowed Bishop Brewer, Sr. to see the full manifestation of his dream and desire. On December 5, 1965, God blessed us with the Trinity Temple Church Of God In Christ, Inc. at 285 Dixwell Avenue, New Haven, Connecticut.
